North American Explorers Project
You are about to embark on a journey to a time when people believed that the Earth was flat and if you went to far, you could fall off. Early adventurers set out to sea with some idea of a destination fueled by the desire for conquest, the need to establish trade routes, and a hunger for gold and riches. They may not have been an expereinced captain or crew. It was difficult to get funding and often the ship was not new but the desire for wealth, political favor, and religious beliefs were the motivation for these dangerous journeys.
Your task is to select an explorer and learn more about him to share your information with the class. There are resources to be found if you click on the images. You will produce a glog, brochure, or slide presentation to share your learning with the class. A rubric will be provided to evaluate your project. You may work alone or with a partner. The following should be included: 1) Explorer's name, 2) Sponsoring Country and home country, if different, 3)Map of explorations, 4) How many expeditions and to where, 5) What did he learn or find?, 6) Some backgroun information on the person, and ^6) Interesting facts.
